THIS IS OUR STORY
Back in the early 80’s, I was just another student struggling to memorize multiplication tables. No matter how many drills I tried, the numbers refused to stick. Then one day, a teacher handed me something unexpected: a copy of multiplication songs, taped onto an old audio cassette.
That simple gift changed everything. Suddenly, the rhythm and melody unlocked patterns in my mind. Answers that had felt impossible to recall before became second nature. It was my first experience with how music and movement could rewire the brain for learning — and it left an imprint that would shape everything I did afterward.
THE POWER OF INTEGRATED ARTS
Years later, that spark grew into a career in arts education and integration. Through my work with ArtsNow and in partnership with Marietta City Schools and beyond, I had the privilege of implementing arts-based learning strategies that transformed classrooms.
Elementary students, in particular, thrived when core content was paired with music, drama, and movement. We saw firsthand how engagement skyrocketed, retention deepened, and even struggling learners began to find confidence in their abilities. For me, it was proof: creative approaches weren’t extras — they were essential.
CURRICULUM DESIGN ANDÂ BEYOND
That passion led me to contribute to curriculum design for the Georgia Department of Education, where I helped weave arts integration into statewide models. This wasn’t just about teaching multiplication or reading more effectively; it was about showing how creativity could be the backbone of education. By embedding the arts across disciplines, we gave teachers tools to reach more learners — and gave students multiple entry points into knowledge.
EXPANDING INTO INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN
From schools, my journey expanded into instructional design for higher education, continuing education, and corporate training. Over the years, I’ve built engaging online courses, interactive learning modules, and multimedia experiences for organizations across industries.
Each project, whether in corporate compliance or culinary arts, has circled back to the same belief I discovered as a child with that cassette tape: learning is stronger when it’s creative, interactive, and rooted in real human experience.
Today, through Coastal Creative Services, that legacy continues. We combine decades of expertise in arts integration, curriculum development, and instructional design to craft learning that sticks — just like those multiplication songs did all those years ago.
